KEN ZEN ICHI KARATE TEAM EARNS

8 MEDALS AT 2006 NIKKEI GAMES

SAN PEDRO, CA  - August 13, 2006 – Members of the Ken Zen Ichi karate team competed at the 2006 Nikkei Games held at The Pyramid in Long Beach today and garnered a total of 8 medals.  The prestigious traditional martial arts tournament, which celebrates goodwill and friendship for the generations, included hundreds of participants from the disciplines of judo, kendo and karate.  The Ken Zen Ichi karate dojo is located at the Angel’s Gate Cultural Center under the supervision of Chief Instructor Michael Berger.

Team members competed in kata (forms) and kumite (sparring) divisions.  Medals were earned by: Elizabeth Brajevich, third place kumite; Jacob Bergersen, second place kumite; Timothy Kirchner, second place kumite; Kalie Klibanov, first place kumite; Brandon Michaels, third place kumite; Christian Michaels, first place kumite, second place kata; and Kevin Rivera, third place kumite.

Ken Zen Ichi Dojo’s classes teach discipline, respect, physical fitness and self-defense. In addition, recognition goes to “Warrior Scholars” who excel academically and participate in the dojo study hall.  The organization is affiliated with the International Karate Association under the direction of Grandmaster Soke Takayuki Kubota.   The traditional Japanese Shotokan dojo is located at the Angel’s Gate Cultural Center, 3601 S.
