We had a great success again this year at the annual Utah Open. All of our competitors displayed the utmost of spirit and respect, and again we swept virtually every division that we entered. Special congratulations go to Kai Haruta, Camilla Hahn, and Max Willets on their exemplary performances.

Shihan is currently finishing his first book, scheduled to be released this fall. The book, "BUDOJIN" My Journey to Japan, depicts his early childhood and introduction to the martial arts, his eventual journey to Japan for training, and numerous training experiences and meetings with legendary teachers. Watch for updates on this great biography which promises to be a classic, or email Shihan for more information. UPDATE: There is a preview available at the Ken Zen Ichi Store!

In addition, our new video, "15 Shotokan Kata," is now available! It introduces the 15 kata that Sensei Gichin Funakoshi established as being the most essential for the understanding of Shotokan Karate, and demonstrates all of the Heian Kata, Tekki Kata, Bassai Dai, Kanku Dai, Jion, Empi, Hangetsu, Jitte and Gankaku. In addition, the bunkai,or applications of the techniques, are shown for all of the Heian Kata. This fantastic instructional video, shot by Ed Willets and IdeaDay Productions, promises to be a invaluable to any student of Shotokan Karate. Thanks to all who were associated with the production of this great training tool !
